Building Capability, Not Just Systems: Why People Remain at the Heart of Digital Change

There’s a certain kind of recognition that means more than a title. This year, for the third year running, Appetite for Business has been named IT Training Company of the Year  and has now been inducted into the Hall of Fame for sustained excellence in helping organisations achieve real results with Microsoft 365.

Awards like this are a privilege, but they’re also a reminder. A reminder of why we do what we do, and who it’s really for.

For founder Sheryl Newman, it’s always been about helping level the playing field in a digital world  ensuring everyone has the confidence, access, and opportunity to thrive through technology. I’ve seen how the right digital skills can open doors, transform how people work, and make workplaces more inclusive and human. That’s why this recognition matters because it represents people empowered and barriers removed, not just systems upgraded.

It starts with people, not platforms

Technology is often seen as the starting point for transformation. But at Appetite, we’ve always believed that digital empowerment begins with people.

It’s not about learning the latest tool; it’s about shifting behaviours, building confidence, and nurturing collaboration.

Our approach to Microsoft 365 training isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a structured, human-centred framework designed to help people at every level of an organisation adopt technology in ways that feel natural and meaningful  turning software into a genuine driver of productivity, creativity, and lasting cultural change.

Because when people understand why they’re using something and how it supports their goals, technology stops being a frustration and starts becoming fuel for progress.

The impact behind the recognition

While this award acknowledges innovation and measurable impact, what matters most to us are the stories behind it  the workshops where confidence clicks into place, the quiet “aha” moments when teams discover a smarter way to work, the managers who see measurable outcomes in collaboration and performance. To every organisation that’s trusted us to walk alongside them on their digital journey  the partners who collaborate with us, and the learners who show up with curiosity and commitment every day.

Research shows that companies investing in training see 218% higher income per employee, and 94% of employees say they’d stay longer at organisations that invest in their development. These aren’t just statistics  they’re proof that when you invest in people, everything else follows.

Here’s to what comes next

Being named IT Training Company of the Year for the third consecutive year and joining the Hall of Fame  is a proud moment. But for us, it’s also a call to keep moving forward: to keep building capability, to keep empowering people, and to keep proving that progress always starts with people.

Here’s to the teams who keep learning, the leaders who keep investing, and the belief that transformation is, at its heart, a human story.
