Appetite for Business CEO Sheryl Newman Joins New Scottish Government AI Sub-Working Group

We’re thrilled to share that our founder and CEO, Sheryl Newman, has been appointed to the Scottish Government’s new AI sub-working group – a significant step forward for Scotland’s digital future and for Appetite for Business.

Why this matters

  • The sub-working group is part of a government-led effort to guide Scotland’s rapidly expanding tech sector, ensuring AI’s economic potential is maximised across industries.
  • With over 25 years of experience helping organisations adopt and embed technology, Sheryl brings a grounded, practical perspective – one that bridges high-level policy and real-world business transformation.
  • At Appetite for Business, we believe AI shouldn’t just be about jargon or buzzwords – it should be about empowering people, streamlining systems, cutting complexity, and helping SMEs stay lean, competitive, and in control. Sheryl’s role in the group will help shape a national AI agenda that reflects exactly those priorities.

Sheryl said:

“I am honoured to join the sub working group for AI and to help shape policies that will unlock Scotland’s potential as a leading digital nation. Appetite for Business stands at the forefront of technology adoption, driven by more than 25 years’ experience guiding organisations through transformative change… By bridging the gap between innovation and practical application, we consistently enable SME businesses to thrive, adapt, and lead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.”

What this means for Scottish SMEs – and for our clients

  • As part of the group’s work, we expect fresh guidance and policies that encourage ethical, inclusive, and practical AI adoption across Scottish business. That aligns with national goals for trustworthy AI as set out in Scotland’s AI strategy.
  • For small and mid-sized organisations – the backbone of Scotland’s economy – this could mean more clarity, support, and momentum to adopt AI in ways that actually help: smarter workflows, better data handling, and improved decision making.
  • As AI evolves, so will the opportunities (and challenges) for organisations of every size. Sheryl’s role in the working group means Appetite will continue to stay close to Scotland’s direction of travel – and that our clients benefit from early insight, trusted guidance, and a clear path through an increasingly complex landscape.

What’s next

Over the coming months, the AI sub-working group will begin shaping recommendations and frameworks that could influence regulation, adoption strategies, workplace readiness, and support for SMEs across Scotland.

We’ll share updates as the group progresses, and as always, our door is open to any organisation wanting to explore how AI and Microsoft 365 can help them stay secure, productive, and in control.
